Volleyball Extends Winning Streak With Sweep of Tri-Match

FROSTBURG, MD - Frostburg State defeated Pitt-Bradford and Messiah College on Saturday afternoon to extend its current winning streak to 10. The Bobcats won both matches 3-0 as they have now won 18 straight games and 30 out of their last 31.

With the victory over Pitt-Bradford (12-11, 6-5), FSU remains undefeated in the AMCC as they improved to 11-0 in the conference and 27-3 overall.

The fourth ranked Bobcats, dominated on the day only trailing three times all afternoon. They dropped the first point of both matches and then in the third game against Messiah fell behind 10-6 before mounting a comeback.

In the first match, FSU took early leads in all three games as they won 30-18, 30-19, and 30-21. In the second match, the Bobcats continued their domination as they jumped out to a 9-3 lead and never looked back winning 30-18, 30-20 and 30-21.

On the afternoon, sophomore Kelly May (Fort Hill/Cumberland, Md.) and freshman Amanda Hernandez (Arundel/Crofton, Md.) led the way as McDonald recorded 20 kills and 11 digs, while Hernandez added 52 assists, 15 digs and five service aces.

Other top performers included juniors Jodie Carpenter (Linganore/Mt. Airy, Md.), who recorded 21 kills, two assisted blocks and five solo blocks, Carrie Ness (Francis Scott Key/Taneytown, Md.), who had 25 assists, Sam Seyfferth (Broadneck/Annapolis, Md.), who had 39 digs, and Lauren Petrick (North Caroline/Denton, Md.), who had 22 kills, 22 digs and three service aces.

FSU returns to action as it travels to La Roche College on Monday, October 27th to close out their regular season. The Bobcats who have already clinched first place in the AMCC regular season, will host the AMCC tournament which will start on Friday, October 31st with the semi-final round and then conclude with the finals on Saturday, November 1st.

Messiah 3, Pitt-Bradford 1 (30-28, 27-30, 30-27, 30-21)

Frostburg State 3, Messiah College 0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-21)
