Volleyball Finishes Fourth at Messiah Tournament

GRANTHAM, PA — The Frostburg State volleyball won one of three matches to finish fourth out of six teams at the Messiah Tournament Saturday.

The Bobcats (12-17) dropped a 3-1 decision to host Messiah to start the day. Messiah took the first two games, 30-21 and 32-30 before FSU turned outlasted the Falcons in the third stanza, 36-34. Messiah then put the match away with a 30-17 victory in game four.

Junior Stacy Bureau (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) led the Bobcats with 13 kills and 10 digs, while freshman Lauren Petrick (Denton, Md./North Caroline) added 10 kills. Freshman Carrie Ness (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) posted 30 assists.

FSU then rallied past Marymount, 31-33, 30-20, 28-30, 30-26, 15-6, in its next match. Petrick had a team-high 17 kills, and freshman April Caprarola (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) added a career-best 12 kills. Ness recorded 38 assists and 13 digs.

In their final match of the day, the Bobcats fell to Scranton in four game (17-30, 21-30, 30-22, 28-30).

Both Petrick and Ness earned All-Tournament Team honors.

Frostburg State returns to action on Monday when it host La Roche for a key Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match at Bobcat Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The winner will likely gain the fourth and final berth in the AMCC Tournament to be held November 2-3.
