Volleyball Finishes Second at Salisbury Tournament

SALISBURY, MD — Frostburg State posted a 2-2 record to finish second at the Salisbury University Sea Gull Classic this weekend.

The Bobcats (6-7) opened with another hard-fought five-game loss, falling 3-2 (22-30, 29-31, 30-25, 30-23, 13-15) to the host Sea Gulls Friday night.

Junior Stacy Bureau (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) led FSU with 11 kills and 14 digs, while freshman Carrie Ness (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) added 35 assists.

A power outage forced the Bobcats to play three matches on Saturday, but that didn't seem to affect FSU, as it swept Richard Stockton, 30-21, 30-19, 30-18, and Eastern, 30-28, 30-27, 30-15, in consecutive matches.

Frostburg State fell to tournament champion Catholic, ranked 20th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Poll, 3-0 (30-18, 30-28, 30-16).

Ness and junior Lori Glatt (Rockville, Md./Magruder) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Salisbury's Kara Kowalski was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

The Bobcats will visit Lake Erie on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
