Volleyball Splits on Final Day of Battlefield Classic

FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State volleyball team splits matches with a loss to Richard Stockton and a win over City College (N.Y.) in the final round at the Battlefield Classic, Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (2-7) lost the first match to Richard Stockton, 3-0. Game scores were 30-21, 30-21 and 30-20.

Freshman Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) led FSU with 17 kills followed by sophomore Caryn Wright (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) with six kills.

Senior Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, md./Arundel) handed out 24 assists and sophomore Jennifer Wheaton (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) 11 digs and two aces.

In the second match, FSU defeated City College(N.Y.) 3-0. The Bobcats captured all three games by scores of (30-28, 30-19 & 30-23).

Winterling led the way by posting 14 kills. Freshman Samantha Quirin (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) also had a strong match smashing eight kills, four aces and 10 digs.

Hernandez had 34 assists and sophomoreKristen Byron(Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded 19 digs.

The Bobcats are back in action at home,Tuesday night at 6:00 pm against Villa Julie
