Volleyball Splits on Opening Day of ASICS Invitational

HUNTINGDON, PA - Frostburg State split its two matches on day one of the Juniata College ASICS Collegiate Invitational Friday evening.

The Bobcats dropped their season-opening match to Juniata, ranked No. 3 in the nation, by a 3-0 count.

FSU led early in the first two games before the Eagles pulled away in 30-18 and 30-19 wins. Juniata sealed the sweep with a 30-21 victory in game three.

The Bobcats rebounded with a 3-0 sweep of Waynesburg to earn the split. FSU took the opening game 30-22 and added 30-24 and 30-27 wins to complete the shutout.

Senior Lauren Petrick (Denton, Md./North Caroline) led the Bobcats with 12 kills versus Waynesburg. Senior Jodi Carpenter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) added 11 kills while sophomore Carly McDonald (Owings, Md./Northern) had 10.

Sophomore Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) had 40 assists, and senior Sam Seyfferth (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) had 16 digs.

The Bobcats continue play Saturday when they face Wittenburg, ranked No. 7 in the country, at 11 and Gettysburg at 1.
