Volleyball Stuns Division II Shepherd With Come-From-Behind Victory

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The sophomore trio of Carrie Ness (Francis Scott Key/Taneytown, Md.), Lauren Petrick (North Caroline/Denton, Md.) and Sam Seyfferth (Broadneck/Annapolis, Md.) helped Frostburg State rally from a 2-0 deficit and stun Division II Shepherd (W.Va.), 3-2, Tuesday night at the Butcher Center.

After dropping the opening games to the Rams, 30-27 and 30-26, the Bobcats (5-2) stormed back with three tight victories.

FSU got on the board by taking game three, 30-24, and then pulled even with an exciting 31-29 win. The Bobcats then capped the thrilling comeback with a 17-15 win in the final game.

Ness posted a career-high 65 assists to finish just five shy of the single-match school record of 70 set by Christy Mann in 1998. Petrick enjoyed a career night, pounding a personal-best 27 kills and eight service aces. She also tied her career high with 17 digs.

Seyfferth also had 17 digs, while junior Kelli Bumgarner (Calvert/Chesapeake Beach, Md.) set career-highs with 15 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Carly McDonald (Northern/Owings, Md.) finished with a career-best 15 kills to go along with three service aces.

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday when they visit Randolph Macon in a tri-match with Chowan. FSU will face host RMC at noon before taking on Chowan at 2:00 pm.
