Volleyball Sweeps Medaille For Third Straight Win

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Frostburg State volleyball team posted a 3-0 sweep of Medaille in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.

Games scores were 30-11, 30-15 and 30-23.

The Bobcats won their season-high third straight match to improve to 9-14 overall and 2-1 in the AMCC, while the Mavericks dropped their fourth in the row to fall to 5-16 overall and 1-2 in the AMCC.

Frostburg State controlled the action in game one, jumping out to a quick 9-2 lead. Junior Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) later served up three winners to help the Bobcats open an 18-9 cushion, and FSU scored 12 of the final 14 points to close out the 30-11 victory.

Game two following a similar pattern, as the Bobcats built an 11-5 advantage and never looked back. Medaille cut its deficit to 16-10 before FSU ripped off four straight to pull away. The Bobcats later used an 8-1 run to complete the 30-15 victory.

The Mavericks threatened early in game three, forging five ties as the teams battled to a 7-7 deadlock. A 7-1 spurt by the Bobcats gave the hosts a 14-8 cushion, but the Mavericks hung tough and scored five straight to pull to within 14-13.

The teams then exchanged points before FSU went on an 8-1 run to take a 23-15 advantage. Sophomore Gaby Archibold (Odenton, Md./Arundel (Anne Arundel CC)) then slammed down two kills to end the afternoon.

Senior Carly McDonald (Owings, Md./Northern) led the Bobcats with 13 kills and added seven digs, while junior Amanda Frantz (Friendsville, Md./Northern Garrett (Garrett College)) had 12 kills and three service aces.

Hernandez recorded 32 assists and five digs, and senior Kristie Butt (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) posted a team-high 14 digs to go along with two aces.

The Bobcats return to action Wednesday when they visit Mt. Aloysius for another AMCC match starting at 6:30 pm.
