Volleyball to Host Pitt-Greensburg Tuesday in AMCC First-Round Action

The Frostburg State volleyball program hosts Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday, November 1, at 7:00 pm, for an opening round match of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament.

No. 3 seeded FSU enters the game with a 16-15 overall record and a 7-2 AMCC mark, while No. 6 seeded UPG enters with an 8-24 overall record including a 3-6 conference record.

The Bobcats only two conference losses came to the two teams seeded higher than them, Penn State Altoona and Penn State Behrend. Altoona came back from a 2-0 deficit to win a hard-fought 3-2 match back on a September 28. Behrend swept FSU 3-0, on October 23.

Pitt-Greensburg captured a spot in the opening round after downing Pitt-Bradford this past Saturday, 3-0. The Bobcats have turned things around after a 6-14 start, winning 10 of their last 11 matches.

The FSU attack is led by junior Amanda Frantz (Friendsville, Md./Northern Garrett (Garrett College)) with a team-high 364 kills for an average of 3.64 kills per game.

Senior Carly McDonald (Owings, Md./Northern), the reigning AMCC Player of the Week, leads FSU with 372 digs and ranks second with 299 kills. With her 21-kill performance in last Saturday’s 3-1 win over Lake Erie, McDonald surpassed the 1,000 kill mark for her career.

Junior Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) leads the Bobcats and is second in the AMCC with 1,024 assists averaging 9.85 per game.

Breanne Bell leads UPG and ranks ninth in the league with 323 kills posting 3.05 per game, while Ashley Mattiko is second on the team with 170. Leslie Long has dished out 593 assists and Amanda Brant is the team leader with 335 digs.

The FSU-UPG winner will advance to face No. 2 Penn State Altoona in the semifinals on Friday, November 4 at 8 pm at Penn State Behrend.

The AMCC championship match will take place on Saturday, November 5 at 1:00 at Penn State Behrend, with the victor receiving an automatic bid the NCAA Division III Tournament.
