Volleyball to Play Penn State Altoona in AMCC Tournament

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Frostburg State volleyball team will play Penn State Altoona in the semifinals of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament held at Penn State Behrend Friday at 8:00 pm.

No. 3 seeded FSU enters the game with a 17-15 overall record, having beaten #6 Pitt-Greensburg Tuesday night, 3-1, in the first round of the AMCC Tournament.

FSU, who is currently riding a four-game winning streak, took game one 30-18. In game two, FSU would open a 17-12 lead, but would watch it evaporate as Pitt-Greensburg battled back to to tie the game at 17. That would be as close at the visitors would get, however, as FSU opened leads of 25-19 and 29-22 before taking the game 30-25.

Frostburg State grabbed a 22-9 lead in game three, but UPG rebounded tying the game at 27, before going on to win 31-29. Game four saw the Bobcats cruise to a 30-13 victory ending the match 3-1.

FSU will square off against Penn State Altoona for the third time this season having dropped both regular season matches.

The Bobcats lost a 3-0 match to the Lions at the Moravian Greyhound Premiere Invitational on Sept. 3, followed by a 3-2 defeat at Bobcat Arena on Sept. 28. Heading into the season, Frostburg State was riding a five-game winning streak againt PSA.

FSU is paced by junior Amanda Frantz (Friendsville, Md./Northern Garrett (Garrett College)) with 379 kills followed senior Carly McDonald (Owings, Md./Northern) with 338.

Junior Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) is second in the AMCC with 1,080 kills while McDonald leads the team with 394 digs.

Penn State Altoona is led by Erin Monn with 278 kills averaging 3.23 per game. She is followed by Natalie Bonno and Sheena Cooper with 245 and 220 kills, respectively.

Erin Shields leads PSA with 559 assists and 47 service aces while Megan Goss leads the AMCC with 436 digs averaging 5.13 per game.

The winner of the AMCC Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament.
