Volleyball Wins Two Matches on Final Day of Maryland State Championships

St. Mary's City, Md. - Volleyball won both of their matches on the final day of the Maryland State Division IIIChampionships, Saturday afternoon.

Frostburg State (7-9) defeated Washington College 3-0 and Goucher College 3-0.

Against Washington College, FSU won game one 30-27, game two 30-28, and game three 30-27.

In the first match, the Bobcats had three players with double-digit kills. Freshman Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) posted a team high with 15, while freshman Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett) recorded 14, and sophomore Caryn Wright (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) had 10.

Senior Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) had 38 assists and teammate Jennifer Wheaton (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) recorded 15 digs for the Bobcats.

In the second match, the Bobcats won all three games against Goucher College, beating them by scores of 30-28, 30-19, and 30-9.

Winterling posted a double double, with 16 kills and 10 digs, while Hernandez had another solid match, recording four kills and 31 assists.

The Lady Bobcats return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Seton Hill at 7:00 pm.
