Volleyball's AMCC Winning Streak Hits 20 With Victory Over La Roche

Frostburg, MD — Frostburg State University volleyball extended its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference winning streak to 20 straight matches with a 3-0 win over La Roche Monday evening at Bobcat Arena.

The Bobcats (20-3, 6-0 AMCC), who have not lost a regular-season AMCC match since the 2001 season, came out struggling as they won the first game 30-27.

The Redhawks (10-11, 3-3) came back from a 27-21 deficit to tie it at 27 before the Bobcats took control. FSU then rolled over La Roche in the final two games, 30-15 and 30-14.

FSU began the first game with an 8-2 lead, but could not find its grove as it allowed the Redhawks to charge back and take an 18-16 lead.

Following a Bobcat timeout, freshman Amber Riffe (Calvert/Chesapeake Beach, Md.) and junior Carrie Ness (Francis Scott Key/Taneytown, Md.) served Frostburg State back into the lead, 27-21.

However, the Red Hawks made a late charge to tie it at 27 before the Bobcats could close them out.

In the second game, the Bobcats again turned to the serving of Ness as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back in a 30-15 victory.

The third game was more of the same as the Bobcats held a slight 16-12 lead before freshman Lauren Weller (Gaithersburg/Gaithersburg, Md.) served the Bobcats to 11 straight points for a commanding 27-12 lead.

The Bobcats were led by Ness, who recorded 48 assists, junior Sam Seyfferth (Broadneck/Annapolis, Md.), who had 18 digs, and junior Jodi Carpenter (Linganore/Mt. Airy, Md.), who recorded an impressive 17 kills.

Junior Lauren Petrick (North Caroline/Denton, Md.) and sophomore Carly McDonald (Northern/Owings, Md.) each added 13 kills.

The Bobcats will return to action this Thursday looking to extend their conference winning streak against Penn State Altoona starting at 6:30 p.m.
