Wieland Lifts Men's Soccer Past Bethany in Overtime

FROSTBURG, MD — Junior Jon Wieland (Woodbridge, Va./Hylton) scored with 3:48 remaining in the first overtime to lift Frostburg State to a 3-2 win over visiting Bethany (W.Va.) College Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (9-5), winners of three straight, opened the scoring in the 20th minute when a Bethany player knocked the ball into his own goal.

Sophomore Onyibo Ilochi (Silver Spring, Md./Rockville) then put FSU up, 2-0, just over eight minutes later, as he headed in a crossing pass from Wieland.

The Bison (9-6) rallied with a pair of goals in the second half to force overtime.

Junior Dan Irwin (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) put the visitors on the board just three minutes after halftime with an unassisted goal and fed senior Stuart Bracher (Galston, Scotland/Loudon Academy) with the game-tying tally with only 37 seconds left in regulation.

Junior Mike Pregnall (Herndon, Va./Oakton) made 12 saves for the Bobcats, while Bethany junior Ryann Bradley (Library, Pa./South Park) stopped four shots.

Frostburg State returns to action on Wednesday when its visits Washington & Jefferson for a 7:00 p.m. match.
