Williams Guides Swimming Past Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. - Freshman Griffen Williams (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) captured victories in both the 500 and 1000-yard freestyles, to lead the Frostburg State swimming teams to a victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford.

The Bobcat men won 74-68 and the women won 31-22.

Wiliams finished in a time of 5:27.19 in the 500 and 11:12.45 in the 1000-yard freestyle.

FSU also claimed the title for the 200-yard medley relay, comprised of juniors Brandon Thorton (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) and Nate Haugh (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) and freshmen Matt Horton (Centerville,Va./Westfield) and Scott Gantz (Silver Spring, Md./Blake). They finished in a time of 1:52.34.

Gantz was also second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.06) and third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.36), while Thorton finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.87) and Horton placed first in the 100-yard Butterfly (59.62).

On the women’s side, the Bobcats had three first-place finishers.

Junior Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) won the 1000-yard freestyle (11:41.84), while senior Megan Falls (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) was first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:20.85) and sophomore Mindy Yost (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) captured the 50-yard freestyle (28.06).

Frostburg State returns to action January 20, when they travel to Penn State Behrend.
