Women's Basketball Downs Hilbert in Opening Round of Showdown in Snowtown Tournament

FROSTBURG, MD — Junior Tiffany Parker (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) scored a career-high 17 points to lead four Frostburg State players in double figures as the Bobcats downed Hilbert, 79-41, in the first round of the FSU Showdown in Snowtown Tournament Friday night at Bobcat Arena.

Frostburg State, which improved to 3-7 with its season-high third straight win, will face William Smith in the championship game tomorrow at 3 p.m.

William Smith outlasted Washington (Md.), 82-76, in double overtime in Friday's other contest. Hilbert and Washington will meet in the consolation game on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Bobcats, who entered the game averaging 53.2 points per game, nearly hit that mark in the first half alone, as they built a commanding 52-26 lead at intermission.

Parker scored 14 of her points in the opening 20 minutes and sank 4-of-5 from three-point range as the Bobcats connected on 8-of-16 from behind the arc and shot a sizzling 52.6 percent (20-of-38) from the field.

FSU controlled the tempo from the opening tip, as junior Christina Bleivik (Houston, Pa./Bartlett) began the scoring with a three-pointer and added a steal and layup. Parker then sank a three to give the Bobcats an 8-0 lead just 36 seconds in.

The Bobcat lead hit double-digits soon thereafter, and FSU steadily increased its advantage to 28 points, 52-24, in the closing minute of the half.

Hilbert (1-8) shot just 9-of-26 (34.6%) and committed 21 turnovers in the first half and managed just 15 points in the second half.

Junior Kim Faust (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals, while fellow junior Holly Myers (York, Pa./West York) had 14 points. Freshman Sara Schumacher (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) scored a career-high 11 points and tied her career-high with 9 rebounds.
