Women's Basketball Downs Mt. Aloysius for Season-High Fifth Straight Win

CRESSON, Pa. — Senior Tracey Little (La Vale, Md./Allegany) posted her fourth straight double-double and 11th of the year with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead streaking Frostburg State to an easy 90-52 win over host Mount Aloysius in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Tuesday night.

The Bobcats improved to 12-4 overall and 9-0 in the AMCC with their season-high fifth consecutive victory, while the Mounties fell to 2-14 overall and 0-9 in the league.

The teams battled to a 10-10 tie through the opening five minutes before Frostburg State took control with a 16-0 run.

Juniors Holly Steinacker (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty (Frederick CC)) and Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County (CCBC-Catonsville)) and sophomore Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) each scored four points in the outburst.

FSU’s lead grew to as much as 26, 42-16, with 4:32 left in the first period. The Bobcats held a 50-27 advantage at the break thanks to shooting a scorching 22-of-30 (73.3 percent) from the floor.

FSU cooled off in the second half, hitting 13-of-35 (37.1) from the field but kept its distance behind a 14-of-22 effort from the free throw line.

Little, who also blocked three shots on the night, hit a pair of shots from the charity stripe to make it a 72-33 contest with 10:50 to play.

George gave the Bobcats a 40-point cushion, 88-48, on a layup with 1:47 remaining.

FSU dominated the paint, outscoring Mount Aloysius 44-6, and also held a commanding 33-2 advantage in bench points.

Steinacker finished with season-highs of 14 points and seven rebounds, while George posted a solid all-around effort with 10 points, five rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Junior Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) added 10 points.

Missy Wertz led the Mounties with 17 points, while Ashley O’Shell and Katie Martin each finished with 14.

Frostburg State looks to stay undefeated in AMCC action this weekend when it hosts defending champion Penn State Behrend Friday at 6 pm and Pitt-Bradford Saturday at 4 pm.

The Bobcats scored the final eight points of the game to pull out an exciting 63-61 win over Behrend December 4 one night after handing Bradford a 62-48 loss.
