Women's Basketball Downs Penn State Altoona for Third Straight Win

FROSTBURG, MD — Senior Tracey Little (LaVale, Md./Allegany) posted her second straight double-double and ninth of the season, as she scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Frostburg State to a 70-55 victory over Penn State Altoona on Tuesday.

The Bobcats (10-4, 7-0 AMCC) never trailed in the game and opened an 8-0 lead at the 16:59 mark in the first half backed by two free throws from sophomore Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook). The Bobcats kept the pressure on using a 20-4 run, extending their lead to 24 on a freshman Amber Perry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Suitland) layup, with 7:01 remaining.

Penn State Altoona (3-9, 3-3 AMCC) cut the deficit to 14 when Krystal Ferry converted a three-point play with 2:56 remaining. The teams battled back and forth before Ferry was fouled with one second remaining. She converted three free throws to bring the scoring to a close with FSU leading at the half 41-27.

In the second period, the Lions closed the FSU lead to 50-40 when Tara Stock converted a jumper at the 13:53 mark. Frostburg State then went on a 12-4 to extending its lead back to 18 capped by a Tracey Little basket.

With just over three minutes remaining, the Lions would make one final run cutting the Bobcat lead to 12, 66-54. Little then scored the next two Bobcat baskets increasing the lead to 16 with 1:55 left.

Hargrove recorded double-digits for the third straight game as she scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Junior Kelly True (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) tied a career-high with 15 rebounds and sophomore Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) led all players with six assists.

Despit the loss, the Lions had four players score in double-digits led by Tara Stock with 14 points. Lindsey Barr scored 12 followed by Erin Sheilds with 11 and Krystal Ferry with 10.

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday January, 22 when they host Pitt-Greensburg at 2:00 pm.
