Women's Basketball Drops Game to Pitt-Bradford

FROSTBURG, MD - Freshman Samantha Groller had a team-high 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Pitt-Bradford to an 81-68 win over Frostburg State Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.

The Panthers (4-10, 3-2) have now won four in a row after starting the season 0-10 and have pulled into a tie with FSU in the AMCC standings.

The Bobcats (11-6, 3-2) struggled all afternoon as they shot only 27% from the floor in the first half and 32% for the game. The problems continued from the free throw line, as they were only able to convert 15 of 27 chances.

Leading the way for the Bobcats was sophomore Kelly True (Southern Fulton/Warfordsburg, Pa.) who had team-highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Tracey Little (Allegany/LaVale, Md.) and freshman Tracie George (Windber/Windber, Pa.) each added 15 points, while Little pulled down 10 rebounds and had five block shots.

The game was close at halftime as the Bobcats trailed by six points, 40-34. However, the Panthers pulled away early in the second half, building an 11-point advantage with 18 minutes to play.

The Bobcats rallied and got to within three points, 49-46, on a bucket from George with 14 minutes left. However, UPB responded with an 8-0 run and pushed its lead back to 11 at 57-46. The Bobcats never got to within five points the rest of the way, and the Panthers secured the win shooting 15 of 22 from the free throw line in the second half.

Junior Calista Walker had 17 points for the Panthers, while freshman Dani Hamilton added 15 points.

Frostburg State returns to action this Wednesday as it hosts La Roche College at 6:00 pm.
