Women's Basketball Drops Rival Penn State Behrend 66-62

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Frostburg State women’s basketball team rebounded from a loss earlier in the week, by defeating Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Penn State Behrend 66-62, Saturday afternoon.

With the win, FSU improves to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference, while PSB drops to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Senior Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) led Frostburg State in scoring with a season-high 22 points and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line, while junior Amanda LaPorta (Westminster, Md./Westminster) was second on the team with 10.

Freshman Tonya Handy (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) had a solid afternoon, grabbing 11 rebounds, scoring eight points, dishing out three assists, and recording two blocks.

Penn State Behrend had three players score in double figures. Julia Andrus led the team with 19 points, while Victoria Innes scored 16 points and Brittany Mays chipped in with 11.

In the first half, both teams shot 37.0 percent from the field and 100% from the free throw line. Frostburg State held the advantage going into half, with the score being 25-24.

The second half would prove to be more of the same, with both teams keeping the score close. The Bobcats would find themselves down by six (45-51), with 7:38 remaining in the contest.

FSU would use back-to-back three pointers from freshman Danielle Langdon (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) to help close the gap 53-53, before taking the lead 56-53 with 4:56 left.

After the Bobcats relinquished the lead, Sidra Bing (Columbia, Md./Catholic of Baltimore) hit a jumper with 2:20 remaining on the clock to put the Bobcats back on top, with the score being 61-60.

A steal by Hargrove with 13 seconds remaining, followed by a lay-up would seal the victory for FSU 66-62.

Frostburg State was 23-of-52 (44.2 percent) for the game, while Penn State Behrend went 25-of-60 (41.7%).

FSU returns to the court on Sunday, December 3, when they face non-conference opponent Villa Julie at Bobcat Arena at 3:00 pm.
