Women's Basketball Holds Off Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, OH - Junior Tracey Little (La Vale, Md./Allegany) recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while freshman Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) added 14 points to lead Frostburg State to a 65-56 win over Lake Erie Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Gym.

Sophomore Melanie Herget (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) scored 11 points for the Bobcats, who overcame 24 turnovers and 31.4 percent (22-of-70) shooting to snap a two-game losing skid.

Frostburg State (12-7, 4-3 AMCC) took the lead for good, 27-25, on a jumper by sophomore Kenya Broadnax (Elkridge, Md./Howard) with 2:24 remaining in the first half.

The Bobcats held a 32-27 advantage at the break.

Little, who added five blocks, scored seven of her points in the first five minutes of the second half to help FSU take a 44-38 lead, but Lake Erie would not fold.

The Storm (1-15, 1-6) closed to within three, 44-41, at the 10:15 mark before the Bobcats used consecutive baskets from junior Jamie Cable (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick), Little and freshman Krysten Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) to move in front 50-41.

Lake Erie tried to pull even, getting as close as four several times late in the game, but George drained three-pointers on back-to-back Bobcat possessions and Little followed with a layup to keep the Storm at bay.

George sealed the victory by hitting 3-of-4 free throws in the final 48 seconds.

Cable finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals for FSU.

The Bobcats will visit Villa Julie Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
