Women's Lacrosse Beats College of Notre Dame, 22-12, to End Losing Streak

Frostburg, MD - Frostburg State scored a season-high 22 goals and ended its three-game losing streak as it cruised past visiting College of Notre Dame of Maryland Wednesday afternoon, 22-12.

The Bobcats (8-3) scored nine goals in the first 15 minutes of the game as sophomores Kelley Duncan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), Stefanie Ritz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Kate Nicol (Mt. Airy, Md./Glenelg) each tallied three goals to lead FSU to a 9-4 lead.

Junior Caitlin Howley (Damascus, Md./Damascus) then scored a goal off an assist from freshman Ashley Mattison (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake). Ritz, who scored a career-high six goals, then added two more goals before halftime for a 13-6 lead.

Junior scoring leader Page Macey (Linthicum, Md./North County) finally got on the scoreboard in the 36th minute before Tara Blake (Crofton, Md./Arundel), who had a career-high four assists, scored her only goal of the game just 30 seconds later. Mattison then scored the first of her career-high two goals and freshman Tina Trent (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) scored her first career goal to make the score 18-7.

Senior goalie Sarah Shockley (Fallston, Md./Fallston), who is currently 10th in the nation in save percentage, made seven saves on the day to record her eighth win on the season.

The College of Notre Dame was led on the day by Lori Baran who scored four goals, while Rebecca Dodson and Heather Mullin each added three goals apiece.

Frostburg State returns to action Saturday when it hosts second ranked The College of New Jersey at 1:00 p.m.
