Women's Lacrosse Falls to Plymouth State

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Frostburg State had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 12-8 loss to Plymouth State Monday night.

The Bobcats (4-2) fell behind 3-0 in the opening three minutes before getting on the board when junior Stephanie Ritz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) found the net off an assist from senior Page Macey (Linthicum, Md./North County).

Plymouth State tallied the next three goals to take a 6-1 lead, but Macey fed freshman Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) at the 11:51 mark to make it a 6-2 contest.

The Bobcats couldn’t keep their momentum going, however, as Plymouth State answered just 18 seconds later to regain a five-goal cushion.

FSU made a late charge in the first half to cut its deficit to 8-5 at intermission.

Ritz notched her second goal of the game off an assist from freshman Maria Schrum (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) at 5:53, and freshman Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) and Macey both scored in the final minute to pull the Bobcats to within three at the break.

The teams battled through a scoreless opening five minutes of the second half before Plymouth State found the net again to take a 9-5 lead.

Ritz recorded her team-high third goal of the night at the 14:11 mark to bring FSU to within three again, but Plymouth State answered just 1:30 later to keep the Bobcats at bay.

Junior Kelley Duncan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) scored off a feed from Lamont at 6:15 and sophomore Tina Trent (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) followed with a goal 30 seconds later to bring FSU to within 10-8, but Plymouth State fended off a potential Bobcat rally by scoring at the 4:23 and 3:26 marks to close out the game.

Macey finished with a goal and three assists, while Lamont had a goal and an assist. Ritz led the team with seven ground balls, while Duncan collected six.

FSU sophomore Rachael Lewis (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) made 10 saves.

The Bobcats return to action Tuesday when they face Colby at 5:30 pm.
