Women's Lacrosse Loses to Guilford 16-8

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Mary Hutchins notched a career-high six goals to lead Guilford to 16-8 win over Frostburg State in women’s lacrosse action Sunday.

With the scored tied a 7-7, GC (1-3) netted nine-straight goals, including the final goal of the first half and the first eight goals of the second half, to put the game out of reach. Freshman Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) ended the drought for FSU (0-2) by scoring the game’s final goal at 3:35.

Juniors Maria Schrum (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) and Hildebrand each scored a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Bobcats in scoring.

Sophomore Meredith Martin (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) scored the game’s first goal to give FSU its only lead of the game, 1-0, less than a minute into action. Over the next 19 minutes, Guilford would build a 6-2 lead backed by four goals from Hutchins.

FSU battled back to tie the game at 7-7. Lamont scored two goals during the comeback, the second evening the game at seven with 4:36 left in the opening half.

Senior Rachel Lewis (Laurel, Md./Wilde Lake) took the loss for Frostburg State, giving up eight goals and making five saves while playing just the first half. Sophomore Erin Morrell (Easton, Md./Easton) played the second half for the Bobcats allowing eight goals and stopping five shots.

FSU returns to action on March 19 when it takes on SUNY Fredonia at 4:30 pm.
