Women's Lacrosse Slips Past Greensboro For a Perfect Weekend

GREENSBORO, NC — Despite being outscored in the second half, Frostburg State held off Greensboro in a 12-10 victory in women’s lacrosse action Sunday afternoon.

Frostburg State, now 3-1, finishes off a 2-0 weekend after defeating Methodist 20-12 yesterday afternoon.

Junior Kelley Duncan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) netted the first two of her five goals at 28:05 and 27:02 of the first half. One minute later, Stefanie Ritz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) scored the first of her four goals to give the Bobcats an early 3-0 advantage.

Karen Hall put Greensboro on the board at 24:49. FSU asnwered back with three consecutive goals from Ritz, Duncan and freshman Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century).

Hall would score again for the Pride before senior Page Macey (Linthicum, Md./North County) would end the half with a goal to make the score 8-2 at halftime.

Greensboro scored three goals in two minutes to open the second half. The Bobcats would find the net when Ritz scored off a pass from Macey at 27:48. Greensboro then scored two goals to bring the score to 9-7.

Back-to-back goals from Duncan and a goal from Ritz ended the scoring for the Bobcats with 16:10 left to play and a 12-7 lead. Greensboro could only score three goals by the end of the game.

Freshman Rachael Lewis (Laurel, Md./Wilde Lake) played the entire game in the net making nine saves and picking up the win.

Sophomore Tina Trent (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) led the defense with eight ground balls, while freshman Maria Schrum (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) caused five turnovers and picked up six ground balls.

Frostburg State returns to action this Thursday as it hosts Shenandoah, marking the first home game of the season at 4:00 pm.
