Women's Soccer Blanked by Denison In NCAA Tournament

FROSTBURG, MD — Junior Tammy Hoch netted a goal and added an assist to lift Denison to a 2-0 win over Frostburg State in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament Friday night at Barclay-Thomsen Field.

The Big Red, which are ranked No. 19 in the nation, improve to 15-3-3 on the year and will advance to play DePauw in the second round of the tournament. The Bobcats close out their season 11-6-3.

Hoch’s goal came in the 20th minute off an assist from sophomore Kia Anderson, which gave DU a 1-0 advantage at intermission.

The best chances for FSU goals came in the 38th minute when junior Danielle Carter (Rockville, Md./Rockville) sent the ball just left of the goal. Five minutes later, junior Lindsay Hoffman (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson (ETSU)) took a shot, but it was picked up by DU keeper Liz Gillette.

In the second half, freshman Ashley Fairhurst knocked in a pass in 74th minute from Hoch.

Sophomore goalie Molly Whyte (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) earned 17 saves in the loss.

“Overall we had a wonderful season,” said Head Coach Brian Parker. “Our five seniors should be very proud of what they accomplished wearing the Frostburg uniform.”
