Women's Soccer Blanks Gwynedd-Mercy, 1-0, to Win Host's Tournament

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. ... Senior Amy Foote (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) scored the only goal of the match with 8:14 left in the first half and sophomore Stephanie Zych (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland) made it stand up with 10 saves as Frostburg State blanked Gwynedd-Mercy, 1-0, to win the Gwynedd-Mercy Tournament Sunday afternoon.

Foote, who led the Bobcats with 15 goals last season, blasted a left footer from the left corner of the box over the head of Griffin goalkeeper Stephanie Hinkle, who made five saves on the day.

Frostburg State (2-0) kept the hosts at bay the rest of the match. Zych came up with a crucial save in the second half, punching a shot just over the crossbar and out of play. The 10 saves matched her career-high she set in Saturday's 1-0 overtime win over Hartwick.

Zych, Foote, junior Tiffany Parker (Pasadena, Md./North East), sophomore Jackie Curry (Waldorf, Md./McDonough) and freshman Karen Kotofski (Glen Burnie, Md./North East) were all named to the All-Tournament team.

The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday when they take on Division II Shepherd (W.Va.) College in their home-opener at 4:00 p.m.
