Women's Soccer Dominates Pitt-Bradford With an 8-0 Win

FROSTBURG, MD - Not to be outdone by the 4-0 win by the men’s soccer team, the women provided a lot of excitement with a dominating performance as they defeated Pitt-Bradford 8-0 extending their winning streak to four in a row.

Frostburg State, now 4-1-2 (2-0 in conference play), jumped on Pitt-Bradford early and often in the first half as Karen Kotofski (Northeast/Glen Burnie, Md.) in her second game this season put two goals on the board in the first ten minutes. Her first goal was a solo effort as she stole the ball from the Panthers defender, made a run toward goal and slid the ball past a diving goalkeeper.

Her second goal was another nice run, but this time she was feed by Tiffany Parker (Northeast/Pasadena, Md.), her first of two assists on the day. The scoring did not stop there; it was Erica Neuser’s (Fallston/Forest Hill, Md.) turn. In the next ten-minute span she put two goals past the Panthers. In the 14th minute she found herself with the ball assisted by Kotofski and Alyse Reed (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill, N.J.) and just found an opening to shoot.

Her second goal came as a pass from Micaela Karinshak (Loudoun Co./Leesburg, Va.) gave her position to dribble twice and put a shot in an open net. To end the half, Kotofski added her third goal of the game; this time on a great serve into the box from Clair Duhigg (South Carroll/Mt. Airy, Md.) which Karen made the goal look so simple heading it into the corner of the net.

FSU went into the half in complete control up 5-0 giving up only two shots, both of which were long chances that had little chance of confusing Stephanie Zych (Guilderland/Slingerlands, N.Y.) who earned her fourth win of the year, as she combined with Kelly Jones (Glenelg/Woodbine, Md.) and Jackie Tonsing (Westlake/Waldorf, Md.) to earn the combined shutout.

The second half was more of the same story for the Bobcats. Both Kotofski and Neuser each added goals to complete their day, Karen ending up with four and Erica with three. Adding in the assist for Kotofski it completed a very impressive 9-point game, a Bobcat season high.

To end the scoring for FSU Becky Rambo (Hereford/Freeland, Md.) added her first goal of the season and she was assisted by Shera Rowan (Bishop Walsh/Frostburg, Md.). Overall the Bobcats performance was exactly what was expected from Frostburg State as they have controlled the series against Pitt-Bradford. The shutout was the sixth in seven career match-ups and in the seven match-ups they have now outscored the Panthers 45-1.

Frostburg State will now look to take the momentum from this performance into their next match-up, as they will host Grove City College (3-4-0) on Wednesday September 25, 2002 at 4:00 p.m.
