Women's Soccer Edges Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, VA — Seniors Shera Rowan (Frostburg, Md./Bishop Walsh) and Jodie Gittleson (Rockville, Md./Wootton) each scored a goal to lead Frostburg State to a 2-1 victory over host Eastern Mennonite in women’s soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Beth Hlebasko (New Market, Md./Linganore) assisted on FSU’s second goal of the game, giving her a school-record 27 for her career. She entered this season tied with Karen Kotofski for the all-time mark with 26.

Rowan started the game with an unassisted goal in the third minute to give FSU (1-1) an early lead.

Neither team found the net for the remainder of the half as the Bobcats held their slight 1-0 advantage at the break.

Gittleson headed in a free kick from Hlebasko in the 71st minute to cap the scoring for the Bobcats.

Freshman Katie Lamm scored in the 82nd minute to put the Royals (1-2) on the board.

FSU sophomore goalie Molly Whyte (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made three saves in the win.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday as they play Wooster in the second annual Bobcat Invitational at 1:00 pm.
