Women's Soccer Edges La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Frostburg State women's soccer team edged La Roche 2-1 Tuesday evening in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference showdown.

Sophomore Jen Naylor (Riva, Md./St. Mary's) scored on a penalty kick in the first half to give the Bobcats (7-5-2, 6-0-1 AMCC) a 1-0 lead.

Later in the first, senior Jodie Gittleson (Rockville, Md./Wootton) gave FSU a 2-0 advantage when she netted a cross from sophomore Danielle Carter (Rockville, Md./Rockville).

In the second stanza, La Roche (10-2-2, 4-2-1 AMCC) scored to narrow the gap to 2-1. The goal marks the first allowed by FSU against an AMCC opponent this season.

The Bobcats withstood a flurry of Redhawk shots at the end of regulation to preserve the win.

Frostburg State returns to action this weekend when it hosts a pair of AMCC contests. The Bobcats face Lake Erie Saturday and then take on Hilbert Sunday. Both games will begin at 1 pm.
