Women's Soccer Extends Winning Streak With 3-1 Victory Over W&J

FROSTBURG, MD - Frostburg State women’s soccer opened its home schedule with a dominating performance as they defeated Washington and Jefferson College, 3-1. The win moves their overall record to 3-1-2, extending their winning streak to three in a row.

Frostburg fell behind early, as the Presidents’ were able to get a goal from Jen Pergola as Sandy Simoneaux assisted her in the 34th minute of the first half. The score remained 1-0 until midway through the second half, even though to this point the Bobcats had out shot the Presidents’ 13-4 and FSU had a dominating control over possession, when a lucky bounce put the Bobcats on the board.

In the 71st minute Tiffany Parker (Northeast/Pasadena, Md.) took a long shot from near midfield that Washington and Jefferson goalkeeper Gretchen Weber attempted to field but a high bounce over her head put her out of position and the ball simply rolled into the corner of the net.

The Parker goal seemed to spark the Bobcats as the aggression level increased and it led to better scoring opportunities. In the 82nd minute Parker again found the bouncing ball in the box and drove it past Weber for her second goal of the game while putting the Bobcats up 2-1 with only eight minutes left.

Just a minute and a half later, the Bobcats were able to add the insurance goal as Christina Blyvik (Bartlett/Anchorage, Alaska) put a pass on the foot of Karen Kotofski (Northeast/Glen Burie, Md.) who put one move on the defender and put her shot underneath a sliding goalkeeper for the 3-1 lead and win.

The goal for Kotofski was her first of the season, in her first appearance of the year. The two goals by Parker was the first two goal game of the year for any FSU player and ties her for the team lead in goals with Beth Hlebasko (Linganore/New Market, Md.) and Jodie Gittleson (Wooton/Rockville, Md.).

Frostburg will look to continue their three game winning streak as they host Pitt-Bradford in an AMCC match-up on September 21st at 3:00 p.m.
