Women's Soccer Remains Perfect in AMCC with 8-1 Win Over Lake Erie

FROSTBURG, MD - Led by junior Erika Neuser's (Fallston/Forest Hill, Md.) first hat-trick of the season, Frostburg State University (7-4, 2-0) remained perfect in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with an 8-1 victory over Lake Erie College (2-11-1, 0-3) on Saturday. The Bobcats jumped out early scoring four goals in the first five and a half minutes of the game.

Neuser started the scoring as she scored the first of three goals on the day in the first minute on a solo effort in the box. Less than four minutes later sophomore Jodie Gittleson (Wooton/Rockville, Md.) scored what proved to be the game-winner on another solo effort to find an opening to score. The scoring continued, as junior Becky Rambo (Hereford/Freeland, Md.) scored her first goal of the season, less than 40 seconds after Gittleson's goal.

With 39 minutes remaining until half, freshman Danielle Carter (Rockville/Rockville, Md.) scored her first of two goals on the afternoon to put the Bobcats up 4-0. Three minutes later FSU went up 5-0 off of a corner kick as sophomore Beth Hlebasko (Linganore/New Market, Md.) found Neuser for the easy header. The assist for Hlebasko was her first of two on the afternoon as later she put a through ball in perfect position for Carter to score her second of the day.

For Carter it was her eighth goal of the season and her third multi-goal game of her young career. Neuser now ranks third on the team, behind Carter and junior Karen Kotofski (Northeast/Glen Burnie, Md.), with six goals.

Junior Beth Yetter (Holy Cross-MC/Silver Spring, Md.) first goal as a Bobcat and Neuser's final goal completed the scoring for Frostburg State on the afternoon as they have now outscored Lake Erie 27-1 over the last three meetings since the Storm defeated the Bobcats in 2001 in a 1-0 overtime decision.

On the afternoon the Bobcats outshot the Storm 46-1 as five Bobcats, Carter, Neuser, Rambo, Rowan and Yetter, were able to get off six shots or more. Lake Erie's single shot came off a freak play as senior goalkeeper Stephanie Zych (Guilderland/Slingerlands, N.Y.) came out of the box to play a back pass and on her attempt to clear, the ball deflected off the head of Stevi Culverwell and rolled back into the Bobcats goal.

The Bobcats will return to action as they travel to York College on Wednesday, October 15 looking to extend their three-game winning streak beginning at 4:00 p.m.
