Women's Tennis Bests Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, PA — Frostburg State swept Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Altoona in doubles and split in singles to walk away with a 6-3 victory and improve its AMCC record to 3-3 on Saturday morning.

Junior Kirsten Getz (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) and senior Christina Bleivik (Bartlett/Anchorage, Alaska) bested Alison Schwartz and Nicole Maietta at first doubles, 8-5.

At second doubles, the duo of freshman Meghan Hess (Centiennial/Ellicott City, Md.) and freshman Kierstin Elia (Patuxent/Lusby, Md.) toppled Jessica Skatell and Julie Bollinger, 9-7.

PSA forfeited third doubles.

In singles action, Getz was downed by Schwartz, 6-2,6-4 and Bleivik was ousted at the second spot, 1-2 (retired) by Maietta.

Elia was bested at the third spot in a close, 6-3,7-6(8) by Bollinger.

At fourth singles, Hess took-out Skatell, 6-3,6-3, while Mendoza routed Baumbaugh, 6-1,6-1, at the fifth spot. PSA forfeited sixth singles.

The Bobcats (7-10, 3-3 AMCC) return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the AMCC Championships at 9:00 a.m.
