Women's Tennis Downs La Roche for Second Win of Season

PITTSBURGH, PA - Frostburg State picked up its second win of the year by defeating La Roche, 8-1, Friday afternoon at the Lake Vue Racquet Club. The Bobcats won five of the six singles matches and all three doubles contests.

Sophomore Kirsten Getz (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) continued her strong play against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foes, blanking Amanda Tyler, 6-0, 6-0, at the top singles flight.

Sophomore Susan Adkins (Archbishop Spaulding/Millersville, Md.) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Melissa Salehajec at the No. 3 flight, and junior Aimee Mendoza (Great Mills/Frostburg, Md.) added a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Toral Shah at the No. 4 spot.

Junior Rachael Sooy (Arundel/Crofton, Md.) was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Kristan Kutzcho at the fifth singles flight, while freshman Elewina Blachewicz (Patterson/Baltimore, Md.) downed Julie Williams, 6-0, 6-3, at the sixth position.

The Bobcats (2-9, 2-4 AMCC) had no trouble in capturing all three doubles flights.

Getz and freshman Jennifer Zviam (Aberdeen/Aberdeen, Md.) teamed for an 8-2 win over Jennifer Ranello and Tyler at the top flight, and Mendoza and Adkins followed with an 8-0 blanking of Williams and Shah at the second spot.

Sooy and Blachewicz were 8-3 winners over Kutzcho and Salehajec at the third flight.

Frostburg State returns to action tomorrow in the AMCC Championships to be held at the Pennbriar Tennis Club in Erie, Pa.
