Women's Tennis Downs Waynesburg in Season Opener

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — The Frostburg State women’s tennis team defeated Waynesburg, 6-3, in the season-opener for both squads, Tuesday afternoon.

The Bobcats won four out of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles competitions.

Junior Heather Potosnak (Easton, Md./Montville Township (NJ)) led the team with a victory in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5 over Jenn Knight. In No. 2 singles, junior Sarah Eisel (Frostburg, Md./Beall) defeated Laura Garcia 6-4, 6-1 and classmate Jenn Tolbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) downed Evelyn Fabian 6-2, 6-0 in the third spot.

Rounding out the singles matches, freshman Caroline Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) earned a win in No. 5 singles with back-to-back 6-3, 6-3 victories over Lindsay English.

Tolbert and junior Amy Brenneman (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) combined to win No. 2 doubles, 8-2, over Allie Horochak and English while Shedd and freshman Ebony Beverly (Baltimore, Md./Western) collected the last win of the match taking No. 3 doubles, 8-5, from Fabian and Jess Mally.

Frostburg State returns to action Thursday as it travels to Westminster at 4:00 pm.
