Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener to Waynesburg

FROSTBURG, MD - Frostburg State dropped its season opener to visiting Waynesburg, 9-0,on Friday at the Cordts Tennis Complex.

The Bobcats (0-1), who were playing with a short roster, played hard but came up short against the more experienced Yellow Jackets.

At first singles, senior Christina Bleivik (Bartlett/Anchorage, Alaska) fell to Andrea Custer 6-1, 6-2.

At second singles, freshman Kierstin Elia (Patuxent/Lusby, Md.) was bested by Mindy Hall 6-0, 6-1 while senior Aimee Mendoza (Great Mills/Frostburg, Md.) fell in straight sets to Beth Conlon 6-0, 6-2.

Playing up one position at fourth singles due to a default in the Yellow Jackets' roster was sophomore Sandy Nagabhushan (Beall/Frostburg, Md.), who dropped the contest 6-0, 6-0. FSU was forced to forfeit fifth and sixth singles.

In doubles play, Bleivik and Elia teamed up at the number one slot against Custer and Hall, dropping the pro-set 8-0.

At the second spot, Mendoza and junior Susan Adkins (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) fought hard, but lost to Conlon and Jenn Knight, 8-3. The Bobcats forfeited at the third doubles flight.

The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 2, against host Bethany (W. Va.) at 4:00 pm.
