Women's Tennis Drops Two of Three at Penn State Behrend Invitational

ERIE, PA — Frostburg State won one of three matches at the Penn State Behrend Invitational on Saturday.

The Bobcats (3-3), playing without their regular players at the fourth, fifth and sixth singles positions, began the day with a 4-1 loss to Bethany (W.Va.).

Freshmen Kirsten Getz (Frostburg, Md./Beall) and Amber Geiger (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) dropped a hard-fought 8-6 decision in the lone doubles match, and Getz was the only Bobcat to pick up a singles victory, downing Katie Navarra, 8-2, at the second flight.

Frostburg State then edged Division II Edinboro, 3-2, in its second match of the afternoon.

The Bobcats dropped the doubles match as well as the top singles flight before rallying to win the final three singles flights.

Getz blanked Heather Consla, 8-0, at the second spot, and senior Becky Allnutt (Frederick, Md./Catoctin) outlasted Lisa Seiler, 9-8 (7-3) in a tiebreaker at No. 3.

Geiger completed the comeback with an 8-3 win over Natalie Kosteransky at the fourth spot.

The Bobcats concluded the tournament with a 4-1 loss to Fredonia.

Getz was the lone FSU winner, defeating Kim Menth, 8-3, at the No. 2 singles flight.

Frostburg State returns to action on Sunday when it faces Penn State Behrend in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match at 9:00 a.m. in Erie.
