Women's Tennis Earns Win Over Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Frostburg State women’s tennis team defeated Washington and Jefferson, 7-2, Sunday afternoon for its third win of the season.

The Bobcats (3-4) won four out of the five singles matches and two out of the three doubles matches.

Junior Jenn Tolbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and freshman Caroline Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) each earned a pair of wins on the afternoon. The duo teamed to win No. 2 doubles over Martina Helferich and Kerri DiGiovanni, 8-1.

Individually, Tolbert took No. 3 singles from Jessica Garcia 6-1, 6-2 and Shedd won No. 4 singles with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over DiGiovanni.

Sophomore Alex Buchanan (Stockton, Md./Pocomoke) also picked up a pair of wins. She teamed with junior Kimberly Hardy (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's) to win No. 3 doubles over Samantha Knapek and Allison Gladish, 9-8. Buchanan also beat Gladish in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.

Junior Heather Potosnak (Easton, Md./Montville Township (NJ)) earned a victory in No. 1 singles over Allison Johnston, 6-1, 6-4 and junior Sara Eisel (Frostburg, Md./Beall) downed Helferich in No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-4.

Frostburg State returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Washington and Jefferson at 1:00 pm.
