Women's Tennis Finishes Home Schedule with Win over Penn State Altoona

FROSTBURG, MD - Frostburg State won its final home match of the season and snapped a three-match losing streak on Wednesday afternoon, downing Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Altoona, 6-3.

Today's competition marked the final home match for seniors Christina Bleivik (Bartlett/Anchorage, Alaska) and Dawn Zimmerman (Linganore/Frederick, Md.) .

Junior Kirsten Getz (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) and Bleivik combined at first doubles to oust Alison Schwartz and Nicole Maietta, 8-5.

At second doubles, freshman Meghan Hess (Centennial/Ellicott City, Md.) and sophomore Sandy Nagabhushan (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) were bested by Julie Bollinger and Lyndsey Masterson, 8-6.

The third doubles dou of senior Aimee Mendoza (Great Mills/Lexington Park, Md.) and junior Susan Adkins (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) crushed Jessica Skatell and Randi Baumbaugh, 8-0.

Getz encountered some resistance at first singles, dropping to Schwartz, 6-3,6-4, while Bleivik handed Maietta a loss at the second spot, 6-2,6-3.

Elia fell at third doubles to Bollinger, 6-2, 6-3, while Hess defeated Masterson at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-3.

Mendoza easily toppled Skatell at the fifth spot, 6-1,6-0, and Adkins had little trouble besting Baumbaugh, 6-2,6-0 at the sixth position.

The Bobcats (5-10, 2-3 AMCC) return to action on Thursday, Oct. 2, against host Goucher at 3:00 p.m.
