Women's Tennis Gains Close 5-4 Win Over Penn State Altoona

FROSTBURG, Md. — Juniors Heather Potosnak (Easton, Md./Montville Township (NJ)) and Jenn Tolbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and freshman Caroline Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) each earned a pair of victories as Frostburg State defeated Penn State Altoona, 5-4, in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Wednesday.

With the win, the Bobcats (6-7, 3-2 AMCC) took over sole possession of second place in the league while the Lions (2-3, 2-3 AMCC) fall to third.

Potosnak improved her record at No. 1 singles to 7-3 on the season with a shutout (6-0, 6-0) win over Pia Capra.

Tolbert earned the second victory of the afternoon for FSU, downing Liz Cleary at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-2. Shedd (No. 4) won the final singles victory for Frostburg State 6-4, 6-0 over Kate DiBartolo.

In doubles action, Potosnak and Shedd combined to earn the victory at the No. 1 position over Capra and Lauren Pannebaker. Tolbert later teamed with junior Sarah Eisel (Frostburg, Md./Beall) to earn the final Bobcat victory, No. 2 doubles, over DiBartolo and Amanda Rodi.

Frostburg State returns to action on Saturday, September 30 when it travels to Bethany at 1:00 pm.
