Women's Tennis Gets First Win of Season

FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State women’s tennis team finished the day with four singles wins to gather its first win of the season.

Senior Aimee Mendoza (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) got the first win of the day for the Bobcats (1-13) as she won at No. 3 singles over Sarah Steward 6-4, 6-1. Fellow classmate Rachel Sooy (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) then got her first win of the season at No. 4 singles when she defeated Erin Spangler in three sets 7-6 (3), 3-6 and 6-3.

Senior Charlena Reeves (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) then got her second win of the week when she beat Vanessa Clise at No. 5 singles 6-3, 4-6 and 6-3. Freshman Kim Hardy (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's) then won by default at No. 6 singles to seal the win for FSU.

Earlier in the day junior Amber Stewart (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and freshman Sharis Erwin (Upper Marlboro, Md./Oxon Hill) combined to get the only doubles win at No. 3 by default.

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, October 16th when they host the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Women’s Tennis Championships.
