Women's Tennis Improves Record with Win Over Goucher

TOWSON, MD — Despite splitting three of six singles matches, Frostburg State bested Goucher 5-4 on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.

Junior Kirsten Getz (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) and senior Christina Bleivik (Bartlett/Anchorage, Alaska) knocked off Katie Grosch and Stephanie Austin at first doubles, 8-5.

At second doubles, the duo of freshman Meghan Hess (Centiennial/Ellicott City, Md.) and freshman Kierstin Elia (Patuxent/Lusby, Md.) were stopped by Elyse Kotzker and Megen Resser, 8-6.

At third doubles, senior Aimee Mendoza (Great Mills/Lexington Park, Md.) and junior Susan Adkins (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) bested Lauren Woodward and Ashley Brinker, 8-4.

At first singles, Getz dropped her contest to Grosch, 7-6(1), 6-0, while Bleivik picked up her ninth win of the season, easily downing Austin, 6-1,6-0.

At third singles, Elia was defeated 6-4, 6-1 by Kotzker, while Hess managed to win the deciding match, toppling Resser at the fourth spot, 6-3, 7-5.

Mendoza stopped Brinker at the fifth spot, 6-0,6-2, and senior Dawn Zimmerman (Linganore/Frederick, Md.) lost a flat-out battle to Emmy Salama-Caro, 6-4,4-6,6-4.

The Bobcats (6-10, 2-3 AMCC) return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, against host and AMCC foe Penn State Altoona at 10:00 a.m.
