Women's Tennis Ousted by Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Frostburg State dropped its first away match of the season on Saturday to host Catholic University 8-1.

The Bobcats (0-2), who are still finalizing their playing roster, picked up just one win on the day from the first doubles team of junior Kirsten Getz (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) and senior Christina Bleivik (Bartlett/Anchorage, Alaska). Getz and Bleivik won their hard fought pro-set, beating Kathy Hegeduf and Kate Dempsey,10-8.

At second doubles, freshman Kierstin Elia (Patuxent/Lusby, Md.) and senior Dawn Zimmerman (Linganore/Frederick, Md.) fell to Michelle Siamon and Sarah Hubert 8-0, while the third doubles duo of senior Aimee Mendoza (Great Mills/Frostburg, Md.) and junior Susan Adkins (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) dropped their match to Emily Bresnaw-McKay and Lea DiCocco, 8-2.

At first singles, Getz lost to Hegeduf 7-5, 6-1 while Bleivik dropped a grueling, three-set battle to Dempsey, 6-4,0-6,7-6(7-4).

Elia was beaten at third singles by Siamon 6-0,6-0 and Mendoza was ousted by Erika Bender at fourth singles, 6-2,6-0.

Sophomore Sandy Nagabhushan (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) lost a tough match at fifth singles to Bresnaw-McKay 6-1, 7-5 and Mitchell was downed 6-0, 6-0 at the sixth spot by Stephanie Kennedy.

The Bobcats return to action on Friday, Sept. 12, at Fairmont (W.Va.) State at 1:00 pm.
