Women's Tennis Slips Past Penn State Behrend

FROSTBURG, MD — Freshman Kirsten Getz (Frostburg, Md./Beall) defeated Lennys Redondo, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, at the No. 2 singles flight in the final match of the afternoon to lift Frostburg State to a 4-3 win over visiting Penn State Behrend in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday at the Cordts Tennis Complex.

Getz, who was taken to a third set for the first time this season, improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the AMCC.

The teams were tied at one win apiece after doubles competition.

Bobcat seniors Christina Miserandino (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Becky Allnutt (Frederick, Md./Catoctin) dropped a narrow 8-6 decision to Redondo and Angela Robertson before Getz teamed with fellow freshman Kim Reidler (Frostburg, Md./Beall) for an 8-2 victory over Kimmy Asada and Becky Snyder.

In singles action, Reidler improved to 4-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 sweep of Michelle Brendel at the fourth flight, and senior Kathy Arnold (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) turned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Christie Leininger at the fifth spot.

Penn State Behrend pulled even after Albertson downed Miserandino, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 and Asada held off Allnutt, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 3.

Frostburg State is now 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the AMCC.

The Bobcats will host Lake Erie tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
