Women's Tennis Stopped by Penn State Altoona

Frostburg, Md.– Frostburg State University women’s tennis fell to visiting Penn State Altoona, 6-3, on Wednesday at the Cordts Tennis Complex.

Junior Kirsten Getz (Beall/Frostburg, Md.), who is still undefeated in match play, defeated Jenn Warden at the number one singles slot 6-3,6-1. Also winning for FSU was junior Aimee Mendoza (Great Mills/Frostburg, Md.) over Shannon Obermeier at number four singles 6-3,6-3.

At number one doubles, Getz and Jennifer Zumen defeated Jenn Warden and Shannon Obermeier 8-5.

Playing an exciting match at fifth singles was junior Rachel Sooy (Arundel/Crofton, Md.). Despite losing that match Sooy took it to three sets before falling to PSA’s Karen Bergstrom 6-2,4-6,7-6(7-3).

FSU dropped second singles 6-3,6-1, third singles 6-0,6-0, fourth singles 6-3,6-3, and sixth singles 6-3,6-2. Second doubles lost 8-1 and third doubles lost 8-0.

The Bobcats, now 0-6 and 0-3 in conference play, return to action on October 5, at Potomac State at 1:00 p.m.
