Women's Track & Field to Send Relay Teams to Penn Relay Carnival

FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State University women's track and field team will send a pair of relay teams to compete in the prestigious 2003 Penn Relay Carnival to be held this Thursday through Saturday at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field located in Philadelphia.

Freshman Chelsea Lewis (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), junior Maria Ferguson (Fairmount Heights, Md./Laurel), freshman Heather Lease (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) and senior Serena Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Merganthaler) will compete in the 4x100-meter relay on Thursday at 12:50 pm.

Sophomore Lynnea Finch (Franklin/Owings Mills, Md.), Ferguson, Lease and Wheeler will then run in the 4x400-meter relay on Thursday at 4:55 pm.

"We're very excited to have been chosen to participate at this great event," said Bobcat head coach Felix Moreno. "If the exchanges go well, I anticipate a 48.80 in the 4x100-meter relay and a 3:57 in the 4x400-meter relay."

Now in its 109th year, the Penn Relay Carnival has evolved into one of the best attended track events in the world.

This year's field will feature 22,000 entries, including the top high school and college athletes in the country, as well as several "Team USA vs. The World" relays. Attendance for the three-day carnival is likely to top 100,000 for the third year in a row.
