Writer Brad Watson to Speak at Frostburg State University

Award-winning writer Brad Watson will speak at Frostburg State University on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the Leake Room, located in the Cordts Physical Education Center. Sponsored by the FSU Department of English and the Western Maryland Writers' Workshop, Watson's talk is free and open to the public.

Watson, a native of Meridian, Miss., earned his MFA from the University of Alabama. A former journalist with several Gulf Coast newspapers, he has taught at the University of Alabama and recently completed a five-year stint teaching creative writing at Harvard. Watson recently moved to Pensacola, where he teaches at the University of West Florida.

His short fiction has been published in Story, Black Warrior Review, Greensboro Review and Dog Stories. His short story collection, "Last Days of the Dog-Men," won a Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award. His first novel, "The Heaven of Mercury," was a finalist for the National Book Award.
