Zych Finishes Regular Season with Three School Career Records

FROSTBURG, MD — Frostburg State junior goalkeeper Stephanie Zych (Guilderland/Slingerlands, N.Y.) recently became the school's all-time leader in wins, shutouts and saves as the Bobcats completed their regular season this past weekend by winning their second straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament championship and earning a second straight trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament.

Zych now has 32 wins, 14 shutouts and 336 career saves, surpassing the former marks of 29 wins, 12 shutouts and 327 saves set by Jessica Richardson in 2000.

Zych, who entered the season with 22 wins, 10 shutouts and 210 saves, got off to a quick start by obtaining the school for career shutouts when she blanked Bethany (W.Va.), 1-0, on September 12 for her 12th career shutout. She then posted two more shutouts, including a huge 1-0 upset of regionally ranked Carniege Mellon October 22, for her 29th career victory which tied Richardson's all-time mark.

Zych wasted no time overtaking the record as she shut down AMCC rival Penn State Behrend, 3-1, four days later in FSU's regular-season finale for her 30th career victory.

Zych entered the AMCC Tournament needing just six saves to tie Richardson's school mark as the Bobcats looked to defend its conference title. In FSU's exciting 2-1 overtime win over Pitt-Greensburg in the semifinals, Zych made eight spectacular stops, including the record-breaker on a one-on-one breakaway.

She then posted seven saves in FSU's thrilling win over La Roche in the title game, including two in a shootout that the Bobcats won, 3-1.

Zych's play has not gone unnoticed this season, as she has earned AMCC Goalkeeper of the Week honors four times. She also leads the AMCC in minutes played and ranks second with a 1.31 goals against averages.

Last year, Zych led the Bobcats to their best season ever with a conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA tournament. She also set a single-season school record with 17 wins, nine of which were shutouts.

Stephanie Zych's Career Numbers:
Wins - 32 (former record 29)
Shutouts - 14 (former record 12)
Saves - 336 (former record 327)
