Congratulations to FSU's team, Kick Master 3000, for winning first place at this year's University of Maryland College Park Design Day. The team's project objective was to produce a football holder that mimics a fast-paced and realistic field goal scenario to better prepare kickers during practice for a game.
Team members included Awah Banga, Savannah Grimm, Jackson McGahey, Kambria Rice, Kevin Smith and John Struss. The team is supervised by Dr. Jamil Abdo, FSU professor and chair of the Engineering Department. A total of 17 teams competed in the event.
"I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to our winning student team – it is the sheer talent, industriousness, and ingenuity of these six students that garnered them a first-place finish amidst what would undoubtedly be formidable competition from sixteen UMD student teams," said Dr. Sudhir Singh, Dean, College of Business, Engineering, and Computational & Mathematical Sciences. "This is also a tribute to the quality of education and mentorship you and your faculty colleagues have been providing our students."
UMD's Design Day highlights the talents and creativity of mechanical engineering students, who are tasked with presenting prototypes built to solve selected engineering problems.
