The EHSC houses the FSU College of Education and Health & Natural Sciences, along with the disciplines of Kinesiology, Education, Nursing and the Health Sciences. Teaching labs for science, math, technology, health sciences and nursing are located within the new building, including nursing simulation labs. The building is also home to the Student Health Center and Student Counseling Center, which provide FSU students with modern healthcare services in a first-class wellness center, and the Children’s Literature Centre.

“In this building lives opportunity,” said Gov. Moore during the dedication. “In this building there’s promise. In this building lives an understanding that if you can have a world class facility, you will create world class leaders who will change the world – people who every single day understand what it means to be Maryland tough and who understand that if we’re willing to invest in them now, the return on that larger investment that we’re going to have on our entire state is going to be profound."

Others in attendance for today’s dedication included Sen. Mike McKay; Del. Jason Buckel; Del. Jim Hinebaugh; former Sen. George Edwards; David Caporale and William Atkinson, Allegany County Commissioners; Paul Edwards, Garrett County Commissioner; Robert Flanigan, mayor of Frostburg; Ray Morris, mayor of Cumberland; and Nina Forsythe, Frostburg City Council.

The EHSC, which cost approximately $82 million, opened in the spring of 2023. The building opening was delayed due to supply chain issues related to the COVID pandemic.
