Emergency Aid Resources for Students

The changes to our educational and living situations for Fall 2020 have created hardships for many of our students. Here are some resources to help alleviate these situations:

CARES Act Assistance

U.S. Department of Education has issued federal funds to be distributed to students to help cover financial hardship.

Fall 2020 CARES Act Information

Residential AND off-campus students are eligible for $375 from CARES Act funding towards their Fall 2020 housing costs. Awards will be made after the 15-week Drop/Add date on Friday, Aug. 21. Students will be permitted to carry the $375 balance on their accounts until after they receive their award. YOU MUST APPLY TO RECEIVE THESE FUNDS.

CARES Act Information

  1. UPDATE: As of Oct. 16, 2020, 2,113 awards for $1,874,344.43 have been made. Of those awards, more than 1,715 individual students have received at least one award with 1,565 for the housing money totaling $586,875. FSU's CARES Act Funding Reports can be found here.
  2. A work group composed of four administrators and two student leaders was formed to develop the criteria for applying and issuing awards, following guidelines issued by the Department of Education. Input from the students was critical to the development of both the criteria and the process. The goal was to provide relief to those students with the greatest need — not a blanket, equal distribution of the funds to all students without regard to need.
  3. The awards were designed to assist students whose financial circumstances were affected negatively as a direct result of the interruption of on-campus studies caused by COVID-19. These circumstances could include housing, utilities, food, transportation, technology, childcare, etc.
  4. Students can still apply for assistance from Spring semester financial hardship:
