From the President’s Desk

Frostburg’s alumni are the best representation of the value of an FSU degree. You have a wealth of experience and the understanding of what your Frostburg education has meant in your life. Bobcat alumni have asked for ways that they can keep that connection to FSU alive by getting involved with today’s students. Here are a few ways to start.

Support their extracurricular efforts.

Show up and cheer at their athletic events. Bobcats compete all around the mid-Atlantic, so check the schedule here to see when they may be near you, or come back to campus.

Our students produce some amazing artistic works, whether in music, theatre and dance, or visual arts, and they appreciate an audience. Performances and exhibitions are open to the public and posted on the FSU calendar.

Help guide their careers.

If your place of employment has internship programs, check to see if they have a place for FSU students. These experiences are an invaluable opportunity and are an increasingly important contributor to student success. You could also mentor a student yourself.

I welcome you to invite a group of students studying in your field to tour your workplace as a useful introduction to a career. There are also opportunities to speak in a classroom or sit on a panel and share your personal and professional stories.

Did your student organization involvement help with your career direction? If that group or a similar one exists now, connect with the current members, or speak at one of the group’s meetings.

The Office of Alumni Relations will direct you to the right office to make those connections.

Get to know students as people.

Take the time to talk and get to know the students you encounter. We bring students to our Office of Alumni Relations-organized events. Or if you get a call from the FSU phonathon, chat for a while with the caller, who is an FSU work-study student earning money to pay for school. Take some time to swap stories about Frostburg then and now.

Come back to campus for Homecoming. You will be setting the example of how to stay engaged with your alma mater, and the weekend is full of opportunities to interact with and support today’s Bobcats.
